The First Deputy Governor of the Capital city J.Sandagsuren meets MCA-Mongolia CEO E.Sodontogos

Ulaanbaatar City, January 13, 2021 – The First Deputy Governor of the Capital City J.Sandagsuren  held a meeting with the CEO of MCA-Mongolia  E.Sodontogos today. The General Manager of Ulaanbaatar City and the Head of the Governor's Office T.Gantumur,  General Counsel of MCA-Mongolia P.Bayar and specialist P.Enkhmandakh were also present.

During the meeting, CEO E.Sodontogos briefly introduced the project activities, being implemented under the Mongolia Water Compact. She also informed about the progress of fulfillment of the conditions that must be met before the Compact enters into force as well as the issues encountered.

CEO E.Sodontogos, highlighted the need to intensify cooperation with the relevant authorities of the Municipality of Ulaanbaatar (MUB) in order to ensure that the conditions precedent to the Compact’s entry-into-force are met and the  $350 million grant is made available for Compact implementation. 

In response, the First Deputy Governor of the Capital City J.Sandagsuren pledged that the authorities of MUB will pay particular attention to this issue and work closely to meet the conditions precedents to the Compact’s entry-into-force in a timely manner. He also stated that the Working Group chaired by the General Manager of Ulaanbaatar and Head of the Governor's Office T.Gantumur, will intensify its activities.

Under the Compact between the United States of America and the Government of Mongolia, the Bulk Water Supply Project aims to enhance a long-term sustainable supply of water, and address the growing demand of water in Ulaanbaatar city, which is home to half of Mongolia’s population and accounts for up to two-thirds of the nation’s economy. The project will also support the development of sub-cities and new settlement areas in the western region, as outlined in the Ulaanbaatar City Development Master Plan 2020, and create a favorable environment and condition for decentralization.
