The Government of Mongolia and the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) marked the official opening and launch of operations of Mongolia’s first large-scale Wastewater Recycling Plant, built under the Wastewater Recycling Project—one of the three main components of the Mongolia Water Compact. The ceremony took place at the newly built Wastewater Recycling Plant on March 16, 2026.

The MCA-Mongolia now invites quotations from eligible offerors for Procurement of Memorabilia Items for Compact Closure Activities. Technical descriptions for these goods are provided in the RFQ document.

Construction work on the Wastewater Recycling Plant has been fully completed, and the testing and commissioning phase has officially begun. The plant has started receiving up to 50,000 cubic meters per day of wastewater from the new Central Wastewater Treatment Plant, in compliance with MNS 4943:2015 standards, and has commenced equipment testing operations. The treated water will be recycled and supplied for technical use at combined heat and power plants, specifically for cooling towers and ash removal purposes.

The Millennium Challenge Account-Mongolia (MCA-Mongolia) and the Ulaanbaatar Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (USUG) proudly participated in the 6th Global Water Operators’ Partnerships (WOPs) Congress, organized by UN-Habitat’s Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) under the theme “Solidarity in Action: Stronger Utilities for Thriving Cities.”

Today, the United States’ and Mongolian governments officially handed over 180 fully automated water kiosks in Ulaanbaatar’s ger areas to the Ulaanbaatar Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (USUG).
