[Ulaanbaatar, January 27, 2021] – Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city D.Sumiyabazar met U.S. Ambassador Michael S. Klecheski on January 20, 2021. The General Manager of Ulaanbaatar City and the Head of the Governor's Office T.Gantumur, Head of Water Supply and Sewerage Authority Ts.Turkhuu, Head of the Ulaanbaatar Land Administration Office A.Enkhmanlai, MCC Resident Country Director Alex Russin, Deputy Resident Country Director Eric Guetschoff and MCA-Mongolia CEO E.Sodontogos were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, parties exchanged views on the current situation and the further development of the Capital city of Ulaanbaatar as well as bilateral cooperation. They also talked over the US government-funded projects and programs in Ulaanbaatar, including the Ulaanbaatar Bulk Water supply Project being implemented with the $ 350 million grant under the Mongolia Water Compact, signed between the Government of Mongolia and the Millennium Challenge Corporation of the United States of America and its significance and contribution to the socio-economic development of the capital city. Two sides then touched upon the issues regarding the requirements for the entry-into-force of the Mongolia Water Compact and discussed how to advance the fulfillment of the requirements and ensure the $350 million grant is made available for Compact implementation and commencement of the construction.
At the end of the meeting, Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city D.Sumiyabazar voiced his commitment to paying particular attention to the Compact implementation and providing support in every aspect. He also expressed his interest in expanding and intensifying the bilateral cooperation without limiting it to existing projects and programs, while mentioning his plan to implement all projects in harmony with green development policy. In response, the Ambassador expressed a readiness to support expanding bilateral cooperation.
