Collaboration for developing criteria for gender-sensitive work conditions in the construction industry.

MCA Mongolia built the Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development to cooperate for increasing gender equality in the construction sector in 2023. Under the cooperation, A.Otgonchimeg, Gender, and Social Inclusion Director of MCA Mongolia has become a member of the Gender Council of the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development to implement the Construction and urban development gender-responsive policy.

The MCA Mongolia is collaborating to develop a set of quantitative and qualitative indicators for assessing gender sensitivity in employees' work conditions, an objective set in the 2024 action plan of the Gender Council.

The MCA Mongolia has shared information on what international and domestic policies and standards are followed by the contractors of the Water Compact, how gender equality and social inclusion objectives are integrated into the project policy and plan, and how gender data is maintained regularly.

Also, on May 14, 2024, the council members held an exchange visit at Biokombinat, Khan-Uul District to see the good practices of building workers’ temporary facilities gender-responsive at the construction projects implemented by Israeli Baran Group, the contractor MMC and Moncon LLC, national subcontractors of Construction of Groundwater Wells and Conveyance under the Downstream Well Activity of Water Compact.

The MCUD has held a pilot assessment under the draft quantitative and qualitative indicators for assessing gender sensitivity in employees' work conditions during the visit with the construction companies.

Mr. Kh.Gan-Ochir, Head of the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Internal Auditing, MCUD emphasized that the findings from the exchange visit were fruitful input to revise the draft indicators more practical to be applied on the ground.  The participants from the Mongolian National Construction Association and the Asian Development Bank highlighted that Mongolian construction companies become experienced in implementing projects in compliance with the international standards and requirements.
