The kick-off meeting for the Consulting service for Industrial Wastewater Pre-Treatment Public Outreach

The Millennium Challenge Account-Mongolia is supporting the implementation of the "Industrial Wastewater Pre-Treatment Plan," approved by Resolution No. 53 of 2021 by the Government of Mongolia. As part of this effort, the Millennium Challenge Account-Mongolia signed a consulting service agreement with the Press Institute of Mongolia on October 3, 2024. This consulting service aims to raise awareness about the importance of industrial wastewater pre-treatment and to disseminate knowledge and understanding.

Today (November 29, 2024), a kick-off meeting to launch the consulting service was held at the conference hall of the Kempinski Hotel. The meeting presented the strategy, methodology, and work plan for the consulting service and gathered feedback from stakeholders. Participants included members of the Working Group tasked with implementing the "Industrial Wastewater Pre-Treatment Plan," representatives from relevant government organizations, water authorities, private organizations professional associations, and communication experts from the water sector. The meeting was a valuable and effective platform for exchanging information and experiences.

About the MCC-Mongolia Water Compact This $462 million project is a partnership between the American and Mongolian people made possible by $350m in MCC grant funding and the $111.76m contribution from the Government of Mongolia which demonstrates their commitment to working together to achieve economic growth and poverty reduction in Ulaanbaatar. The Mongolia Water Compact is funding major infrastructure projects, including the construction of new wellfields and two large plants - an Advanced Water Purification Plant and Water Recycling Plant which will be the first of their kind in Mongolia. In addition, the Compact will invest in policy measures to create a financially and environmentally sustainable future for the water sector of Ulaanbaatar. As a result, the water system in Ulaanbaatar will have been expanded to deliver 80% more drinking water, allowing for the city’s future expansion.
